Before I begin, I’d like to clarify that “Today on the Internets” can include anything I want it to. I’ll be doing them somewhat often.

Today in Gaming

An Avatard’s Discovery

•February 27, 2008 • Leave a Comment

“An avatard? Ava…t– OH! I get it! Wow, that’s kind of stupid.”

Clearly people have issues with high-schoolers (and older, obviously) watching Avatar. In two days I have heard the above line three times from three different people. It kinda sucks, actually.

So I decided I was going to try and mention Avatar (and occasionally the term ‘avatard’) as much as possible for five school days, and see what would happen. Here are my findings:

8 people in my various classes watch Avatar vigorously, but only watch, so can not be classified as avatards.

6 more people in my various classes told me they watch Avatar if new episodes are on while they’re flipping channels, but don’t search for new episodes or anything. I wouldn’t even call that an Avatar fan let alone an Avatard.

29 people said “What’s Avatar?” 7 of them vaguely remembered shortly after asking.

21 people reprimanded me for watching Avatar, including one teacher. All 21 were male.

A few random girls laughed at me. Woo.

Some random asian kids suggested I watch ‘real’ anime. With them I had a lengthy argument, but that is beside my point tonight, so I won’t mention it.

I’ve come to the conclusion that people really suck.

In my school, of the 8 periods in which I mentioned the show, I didn’t find one single Avatard to share my happiness (or AWS) with. I didn’t expect to find many, but I was hoping for at least one!

Anyway, the point of all this is simple. All of us Avatards here on the internet need to interact with more people. Spread the Avatard Sermon. Keep the path growing. Add third stupid cliché here. I know, since we’re on the internet, half of us (or more) don’t know how to do this, so I’ve made a small example:

(Walk up to a friend you know watches animation, preferably anime.)

You: “Hey dude? Sup?”

Other Guy: “Hey, not much, just studying for this stupid test.”

You: “Yeah that sucks. But anyway, I know you like anime a lot, so I thought I’d tell you about a show based on anime styles. It’s real great, and I think you’d love it.”

OG: “Oh? What’s it called?”

Y: “It’s called Avatar, you may have heard of it. Wanna come over today after school and I can show you some episodes?”

So that’s basically how to do that. Remember: getting more people to like the show is the first step. Once you have so many people watching it, the real obsessors will start to emerge. To those, you pop out the fandom. But proceed with caution — make sure you know that the person is ‘computer-oriented’, or ‘technologically gifted’, otherwise they won’t care. But I guarantee you will make a few Avatards of your poor, unbeknownst friends.

And don’t worry, I’ll be doing it too. ‘Till next time,

Poke

Hey!

Hey guys! I’m the humble writer of this humble blog, and I shall be referred to as ‘itsavatarded’, or IA for short. I’d like to take this first blog post to welcome all of you guys here and to welcome myself to the blogging scene. =D This blog is pretty simple. I give you my opinion about things — mainly gaming and the show ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’, but also random other things (like, say, current events…) and you guys comment. So yeah, expect a new post from me soon. But tonight, I’ve got the new Avatar to watch! Freakin’ sweet!
